Diane Freis is just like her dresses, timeless. Freis has been designing since the 70’s and opened her first boutique in Hong Kong in 1978 where she was originally drawn to in her search for exciting new fabrics.
Born and raised in California Freis’ designs have a lovely laid back, easy to wear feel about them and were originally designed for ladies who travelled and wished to avoid the headache of crushed garments. Now her vintage designs adorn the bodies of socialites, celebrities and the fashion conscious alike.
Freis’ signature pieces are her one size fits all, polyester georgette multi print dresses. I realize that on paper this may not sound so appealing but if you are lucky enough to track down one of her vintage pieces, and team it with some great boho jewellery and ancient Greek sandals and you will be oozing L.A. cool.
Some of her followers today include jewellery designer Pamela Love, Nicole Richie and Erin Fetherston.
Interesting fact – when Freis was studying Fine Art at the University of California she used to subsidize her income by making beaded jackets and selling them, one of her most famous customers was the one and only Diana Ross.
